A special distinction for our flight school: The Salzkammergut Flight School has been certified as an Alpine Flight School by the Austrian Flight School Association. This certification recognizes a level of training quality that specifically exceeds standard requirements and prepares our students for the unique challenges of flying in the Alpine region.
Training in the Heart of the Alps
On flying mountains such as the Zwölferhorn in St. Gilgen on Lake Wolfgang, our students learn to paraglide under real alpine conditions. Mountains, valleys, and lakes not only provide a unique backdrop but also present pilots with special flying challenges.
After all, if you want to fly safely in the Alps, you need to be able to do more than just launch, steer, and land a paraglider.
What Alpine Paragliding Training Means to Us
Alpine terrain requires a thorough understanding of the conditions in which we fly. This includes, among other things, assessing the terrain and weather, understanding local and regional wind patterns, managing thermals, and making proactive decisions regarding flight paths, takeoff sites, and landing sites.
An essential part of the training, therefore, is the pilot’s decision-making: Which conditions are appropriate for my current skill level? How do I recognize changes in time? When does it make sense to fly—and when is it the better aviation decision to stay on the ground?
These are exactly the skills we want to teach our flight students.
More Than Just the Required Training
Our certification as an Alpine flight school confirms our commitment to going beyond standard training requirements.
Our goal is not merely to help students earn a license or certification. We aim to train pilots who, once they have completed their training, can fly as independently and responsibly as possible, with a solid understanding of alpine flying.
To that end, we combine theory with as much hands-on experience in the field as possible. Our flight instructors not only teach the course material but also share their experience gained from countless hours and flights in the Alps.

Anyone who wants to fly independently in the Alps in the future will benefit from becoming familiar with the unique characteristics of this airspace during their training.
The Salzkammergut offers us exceptional opportunities for this. The Zwölferhorn, located above St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang, is one of the flying areas where our students gain practical experience in alpine flying and learn, step by step, to assess the conditions on their own.
