Tandem Paragliding through Sound of Music scenery
An unforgettable flight above St. Gilgen, Lake Wolfgang and the Salzkammergut
The idea behind the Sound of Music Tandem Paragliding
The Sound of Music is deeply connected to the landscapes around Salzburg and the Salzkammergut. Rolling alpine slopes, lakeside villages and wide panoramic views form the unmistakable backdrop of the film.
With the Sound of Music Paragliding, we created an experience for guests who want more than just seeing these places from the ground. Paragliding allows you to glide calmly above the scenery, revealing the spatial relationships and natural beauty that made these locations so memorable on screen.
The Zwölferhorn above St. Gilgen is the perfect starting point: centrally located, rich in cinematic history and offering breathtaking views over the Wolfgangsee region.
Iconic filming locations – seen from the air
During the flight, you will glide above St. Gilgen, whose landscape famously appears in the opening sequence of the film. From the air, the village, the surrounding hills and the lake unfold exactly as many fans remember them.
On clear days, the view extends toward the Schafberg area and the wider Salzkammergut alpine landscape, where several filming backdrops are located. Seeing these iconic places from above creates a powerful connection between film memories and the real Austrian scenery.
Weather and visibility always determine the exact route, but the focus of this flight is clearly set on the cinematic landscape that made The Sound of Music world‑famous.
Storytelling in the air
What makes this flight truly special is the storytelling during the glide. While flying, your pilot will point out filming locations and share background stories about the region, the film and its connection to local life.
This is not a scripted tour, but a personal narrative told by people who know the mountains, villages and valleys from everyday experience. The result is an immersive, relaxed and emotional flight that feels both intimate and authentic.
Authentic Austrian pilots
Our Sound of Music Tandem Paragliding are flown by local pilots from the Salzkammergut. Many of them grew up in this region and have been flying these mountains for years.
To reflect Austrian tradition and heritage, pilots wear traditional clothing such as Lederhose and Dirndl on these flights. This is not a costume, but a genuine expression of local culture – adding an extra layer of authenticity to your experience.
Safety, professionalism and calm decision‑making remain the highest priority at all times, just as on all our tandem flights.
